A contract for $300 million has been awarded to Surry Paving and Aggregate Company Limited for the rehabilitation of the Cascade road in Portland.

The roadway collapsed during the passage of Tropical Storm Gustav.

Member of Parliament for West Portland, Daryl Vaz, said several difficulties have delayed the start of the repair work.

Mr. Vaz said the repair work would require additional funding.

In addition, he said the unfavourable weather conditions have forced a suspension in the road repairs until the end of October.
