Guild to provide counselling after recent students’ deaths
The Guild of students at the University of the West Indies, Mona, says it will be organizing counselling for students after three members of the school community were killed in a motor vehicle crash in St Mary, yesterday.
Guild president, Roger Bent, says students at the UWI received the news of their colleagues’ deaths with shock and sadness.
Bent says while many had still not returned from the holidays, several called to express their sadness from as far as Trinidad and Tobago.
Twenty-year-old Andy Lopez, 22-year-old Jammel Fung-Chung and 20-year-old Sherika Wright were killed after their car burst into flames following the collision.
Lopez’s 18-year-old brother Ovado Lopez escaped the burning vehicle.
Bent says Lopez, who was the cultural and entertainment affairs chairman on the university’s guild, was a very dedicated person.
He says the guild will be meeting today to decide on how best to honour the students’ memories:
