‘St Bess’ Parish Council meets to discuss fire
The St Elizabeth Parish Council is expected to hold a meeting today regarding a fire, which gutted the Santa Cruz arcade in the parish on Sunday night.
More than thirty shops and a restaurant were destroyed after the fire raged through the arcade, leaving several million dollars’ worth of damage.
The cause of the fire is still unknown but there are reports that the fire started inside a restaurant.
Several vendors who have been affected by the fire have called for the parish council to provide some assistance.
However, Secretary manager at the Council, Gerald Lee told The Gleaner Power 106 News that no commitment could be given until the matter is discussed at the meeting.
Mr Lee has also described as unfounded, claims by some vendors that the council is responsible for the fire.
The Council had earlier indicated that it would be relocating the arcade to another area.
