Witter horrified at pastor’s hangman statement

Public defender Earl Witter has condemned statements by prominent clergyman Pastor Terrence Brown who has offered to carry out capital punishment.
Last week Brown said if the Government does not have anybody to carry out executions, he would volunteer to carry out the hangman’s job.
He made the statement while expressing outrage at Jamaica’s surging crime rate.
But, the public defender says he is horrified that a pastor would make such a statement.
Witter says while he understands the sentiments behind such statements, he does not believe the resumption of hanging would help to curb the murder rate.
And, according to him, it can never be guaranteed that innocent persons would not be executed.
