Repeat crime for JDF shooter?
The police high command has revealed that the soldier who was involved in a fatal shooting incident at a club on Sunday night had been under investigation for a similar incident.
In a release last night, the police said the Jamaica Defence Force corporal is linked to a previous incident that occurred on the June 17 last year, at Deville Night Club in Mandeville, Manchester.
In that incident two licensed firearms holders were involved in a shootout.
Both received injuries.
Sunday’s shooting incident at the Double Diamond Gaming Lounge on Washington Boulevard in St Andrew left four men dead and another four injured.
The eight were reportedly shot by a member of the Jamaica Defence Force during a dispute involving a woman.
The soldier, who is said to have been drunk, also shot himself.
The police say his injuries are not life threatening.
Meanwhile head of the major investigation task force Assistant Commissioner of Police Les Green has called for policy to restrict licensed firearm holders from entering public places.
The opposition spokesman on national security, Peter Bunting says he is in favour of such a policy.
