Residents of Highgate and surrounding communities in St Mary now have a new health centre.
The type-three health centre replaces the old type-two facility at Fraser Road in Highgate.
The health centre, which was built at a cost of $88.3 million, is to be opened by the health minister Rudyard Spencer today.
The new health centre is expected to offer a wide range of medical services including general medical services; pap smears, maternal and child care services as well as mental health services.
The health centre will also offer health education, an HIV/STI clinic and pharmaceutical and laboratory services.
Construction on the facility started in 2005 and was expected to be complete two years ago.
