Final week of tax amnesty
This is the final week for businesspersons and individuals who owe back taxes to take advantage of the Government’s tax amnesty.
Outstanding payments made during this final month of the six-month long tax amnesty, will get a 70 per cent waiver on interest and penalties.
The Tax Administration Department says persons who are not able to settle all their outstanding amounts should contact their collectorate, pay on their account and enter into a payment schedule with the Collector of taxes.
Following the close of the tax amnesty, the department says it will be embarking on a comprehensive tax compliance drive.
It says taxpayers who fail to use the period of the tax amnesty to settle their tax affairs will come in for greater scrutiny as the tax authorities move swiftly to ensure greater compliance.
According to the tax Administration department, over 4,600 new taxpayers have taken advantage of the tax amnesty to register their businesses, file outstanding tax returns and make payments and are now tax compliant.
