Parents protest at Fair Prospect Primary
It is still not clear when classes will resume at Fair Prospect Primary in Portland, following yesterday\'s protest action by parents, who padlocked the school’s gate.
The irate parents were protesting over the deplorable state of the main building, which was ravaged by Tropical Storm, Gustav.
A Guidance Counsellor at the school, Kay Glennie explained that parents are frustrated, as the Ministry of Education had pledged to build six new classrooms, following a visit to the school last month.
She said the tensions were further fuelled following an incident last Thursday, in which an 11 year old female student was nearly raped after heading home from school around 6 p.m.
The school has been operating on a shift system since the passage of the storm, with classes going up to 5 p.m.
Up to last night the parents were vowing that they would continue their protest this morning.
They say they plan to continue until the Ministry of Education deals with the situation.
