Haye Webster calls for support programmes

Meanwhile opposition Member of Parliament for South Central St Catherine Sharon Haye Webster has called for the government to implement adequate social support programmes to sensitise communities on the sexual offences bill.

She says behavioural change among community members regarding sexual offences will be critical to the success of the programme.

Mrs Haye Webster has expressed concern about the type of justice meted out to individuals who allegedly violate principles set by community leaders.

In addressing Mrs Haye Webster’s concerns the prime minister said the government will have to begin to sensitise communities on the issue.

Mr Golding says communities will have to become more protective of women and children rather than alleged offenders.
