Roadways blocked
The National Works Agency (NWA) is reporting that some main roads in Portland, St. Andrew, St. Thomas and St. Catherine have been blocked.
The Agency said work crews are now clearing the blockages, which were caused by land slippages.
The NWA is warning motorists to be careful when using some roadways.
In St. Catherine, a large boulder has blocked the Sligoville main road, approximately two miles from Bog Walk.
The roadway is now being cleared and is expected to be re-opened to traffic by later this afternoon.
In St. Andrew, the main road is blocked between the communities of Maryland and Woodford.
The roadway is impassable in the vicinity of “Carter Corner” which is just above the two rivers that run across this roadway, close to the St. Mary’s Anglican Church.
The alternative route is Norbrook Drive onto Cambridge.
Motorists using the Stony Hill to Toms River and Stony Hill to Parks Road corridors should also be careful because of breakaways.
Over in the parish of Portland, the Buff Bay to Balcarres main road is blocked between Mile Post 35 & 36.
A work team is currently in the area seeking to have the corridor reopened.
In St. Thomas, the Ford at Hagley’s Gap has been washed out and is now impassable.
The alternative route for motorists attempting to leave Hagley’s Gap is through Bethel Gap to Windsor Forest, through Llandewey onto Eleven Miles.
The NWA is also warning motorists to be careful when using the roadways from Trinityville to Mount Vernon and White Hall to Hillside in St. Thomas.
