Bog Walk gorge closed

The Bog Walk gorge in St. Catherine will remain closed until noon today.



The gorge became impassable yesterday after the Rio Cobre overflowed its banks.



Yesterday, several persons trapped in their vehicles had to be rescued by members of the Jamaica Defence Force and the fire department.



The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) said the gorge is being kept closed until noon because of continuous rainfall associated with a frontal system east of the island.



ODPEM said motorists are to continue using the alternative routes through Sligoville and Barry.



ODPEM said motorists should not attempt to cross flooded roadways and fords.
