Four killed in Rema shooting
Police have yet to release the names of four people, who were killed during a joint police and military operation yesterday in Wilton Gardens, popularly known as Rema.
Up to late last night, there was still no official report from the police on the incident.
Police sources say the gunfire started shortly after 2 p.m. after members of a police/military team patrolling in the community intercepted a group of armed men.
It is alleged that the men opened fire on the police and soldiers who returned the fire.
When the shooting ended, four men were dead, while two women had to be taken to hospital.
The police say a high-powered rifle, a shotgun, a 9 mm pistol, two magazines, three shotgun castings and other assorted ammunitions were seized.
A short while later, the police/military team taking the four men to the morgue was reportedly fired on and a member of the Jamaica Defence Force hit.
He has since been admitted to hospital.
15 people have been detained by the police for questioning in connection with ongoing gang violence in the community.
