Police Federation refutes Shields\' claim
The Jamaica Police Federation is refuting statements by Deputy Commissioner of Police Mark Shields regarding the pursuit of work outside the force by police personnel.
Speaking with journalists following a press conference last Wednesday DCP Shields disclosed that a new policy would be implemented on November one to prevent the employment of police personnel outside of the force.
He was responding to questions regarding the ownership of illegal taxis by police personnel.
However, Chairman of the Police Federation, Corporal Raymond Wilson says the federation is not aware of a policy that prohibits police personnel from doing work outside of the force.
According to him there are provisions under an Extra Work Programme for police personnel to be paid for performing duties at private events.
He says the policy also stipulates areas of work that police personnel are not allowed to engage in.
