Teachers fearful

The Jamaica Teachers’ Association, JTA, is reporting that the level of fear among members is now worsening with the increased attacks on women and children

The comments come only days after the death of 18-year-old Pia Phillips, the head girl of the Immaculate Conception High School in St Andrew.

Pia was accidentally shot by her father while he was trying to protect her and her mother from gunmen at the gate of their Havendale home on Saturday evening.

JTA secretary general, Dr Adolph Cameron says parents and teachers in some areas are now frightened because of the increasing attempts to abduct children.

The JTA has also paid tribute to the memory of young Pia. Dr Cameron says he is saddened by the unfortunate circumstances. The JTA has also condemned what it calls the wanton attack on children and women.
