Sad day at Immaculate Conception High
Regular classes were suspended at the Immaculate Conception High in St Andrew today as staff and students received counselling. Spirits were low at the Immaculate Conception High School in St Andrew today.
It’s two days after Paul Phillips accidentally shot his daughter Pia after he rushed to defend her and another family member from an attack by gunmen. Mr. Phillips went outside him with his licensed firearm after he heard screams from his daughter.
According to police reports, he slipped, then fell and the gun went off. Pia who received a shot to the abdomen died in hospital yesterday.
At school this morning a thick blanket of grief wrapped the entire school family as staff, students and past students banded in grief, tears flowed freely. Some were still shocked at the turn of events while others, like grade captain Caitlin Williams, were struggling to figure out how to celebrate the life that Pia lived.
Vice principal, Aba Polson says emphasis will be placed on providing counselling for staff and students. Pia who was a sixth form student was celebrating her 18th birthday on the day of the shooting.
