The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says it will be introducing several measures to reduce the level of electricity theft.

The JPS is now losing about 13 per cent of the electricity it generates because of theft.

In a release this afternoon, the company said it would be removing the service wires and meters of customers who request that their service be disconnected.

The JPS also says it will be removing wires and meters of customers whose service have been disconnected for non-payment of bills, if they fail to make arrangements for reconnection within 30 days after the disconnection.

In addition, the JPS says it will be inspecting all accounts showing zero-consumption for a prolonged period.

The light and power company says in these cases it will remove and replace the meters.
