The Guild of Students at the University of West Indies, Mona campus has called for the school’s administration to improve its electronic security system.

The call follows several incidents in which students have been reportedly robbed while on the campus.

President of the Guild of Students, Roger Bent, said students are very concerned about their safety while on and off campus.

Mr. Bent said while the administration have moved to put additional security measures in place, the guild believes strengthening the electronic security system is important at this time.

He said students should also avoid travelling alone along areas that are targeted by criminals.

Over the weekend, a female student was abducted and raped and there are reports of an attempt by criminals to abduct three others.

Those incidents reportedly happened off campus.
