Valentine to meet with Air J

Vice president of the National Workers Union (NWU), Granville Valentine said he would be meeting with the management of Air Jamaica this week to discuss the reported termination of the positions of some workers.



There were reports yesterday that the new board of the airline recommended that 30 percent of the employees be relieved of their jobs.



Mr. Valentine said some workers at the airline have become very restive following the reports.



He also said that plans to cut staff are a breach of the Public Sector Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).



Executive chairperson of Air Jamaica, Shirley Williams said no decision has been made to terminate any positions at the airline.



She said the temporary workers who were sent home after December 31 had reached the end of their contracts.



Mrs. Williams also said the airline is being restructured.
