Usain Bolt wins Gleaner’s Man of the Year Award.

Triple gold medallist and world 100-metre record holder Usain Bolt is the 2008 recipient of the Gleaner’s Man of the Year Award.



In accepting the award the 22-year-old Olympic hero thanked Jamaicans for their support in recent months.



He also thanked the Gleaner company for honouring other Jamaicans who have helped in the development of the country:



The other members of the 2008 men’s 4x100 metre relay team were also awarded for their outstanding performance at the Beijing Games.



100 metre gold medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser, 400 metre hurdles gold medallist Melaine Walker and 200-metre gold medallist Veronica Campbell- Brown were also recipients of the Gleaner’s Honour Awards.



Several other Jamaicans were also awarded for their contribution in the field of business, health, education, public service, entertainment, science and technology as well as voluntary service.



The Gleaner Company has been awarding outstanding Jamaicans for three decades.



The first recipient of the awards was a former governor general of Jamaica, Sir Florizel Glasspole in 1979.
