Police to investigate abduction reports

The police high command has disclosed that it will be prosecuting persons who make malicious abduction and sexual assaults reports.

At a press conference this afternoon, commissioner of police Rear Admiral Hardly Lewin said the police will be investigating whether some of the reports are genuine.

The decision comes against increased reports among members of the public that more children and young women are being abducted and raped.

The police say many of the reports are false and that there has been a reduction in the number of abductions since the start of the year when compared with similar periods in previous years.

The police say so far this year 57 people have been abducted compared with 125 the previous year.

The commissioner says while the police will continue to treat all reported cases with urgency, it will take action against persons who knowingly make false reports.

Commissioner Lewin also denied that a task force to be led by DSP Cornwall Bigga Ford, has been set up to hunt abductors.
