Government and PNP tangle over Ferry lands
The Prime Minister this afternoon dismissed claims by the Peoples National Party that the lands at Ferry were purchased primarily to bail out the Hydel Group of Schools which is operated by government senator Hyacinth Bennett.
Addressing Parliament this afternoon, Mr. Golding said the Hydel Group was complimentary to plans by the government to develop the area.
Mr. Golding says the decision by the government was in the interest of preserving the educational opportunities for hundreds of students.
However, the Opposition leader, Portia Simpson Miller, says the PNP feels vindicated that the Prime Minister has now admitted that the lands were purchased to save the Hydel Groups of school.
Mrs. Simpson Miller expressed disappointment that the education ministry was not called on to do an analysis as to whether Hydel was ideal for such government intervention.
