Patient missing from hospital

The opposition Peoples National Party (PNP) has raised concerns over the disappearance of a patient from the Annotto Bay hospital in St Mary.

Fifty-three-year-old Beref Ramsay, a farmer of Bybrook in Portland, reportedly went missing from the hospital last Friday.

He has not been seen or heard from since.

Ramsay was admitted to the hospital for treatment of a wound he had received to the abdomen.

He was discovered missing on Saturday by a relative who went to visit him.

The opposition spokesman on health, Dr Fenton Ferguson, says this latest incident represents another blot on the healthcare system, which he says, is overwhelmed and under funded.

Dr Ferguson is also concerned that the hospital’s administration did not follow its own procedures in reporting the patient missing.

Ramsay was reported missing to the police on Saturday.

At the time of his disappearance he was wearing a yellow merino and dark-coloured plaid pants and a pair of sneakers.

The Annotto Bay police who are investigating say Ramsay is of dark complexion and about 6 feet 7 inches tall.

They are asking persons with information regarding his whereabouts to contact the nearest police station.
