JLP supporter identified
The police have identified the man shot dead at yesterday’s Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) conference at the national arena as 35 year old David Lyndsay.
Investigators are also appealing for anyone who witnessed the shooting to call 811, 311 or 119.
The JLP’s General Secretary, Karl Samuda, said an immediate investigation has been ordered into the incident.
He said that acting on the directive of the Prime Minister, Bruce Golding, a thorough review of all security arrangements for future Party conferences would also be undertaken to prevent a recurrence.
Sources say the incident began when a quarrel developed between men believed to be from Mountain View in St Andrew and Spanish Town in St Catherine.
The police intervened and a gun was drawn.
One man was later discovered suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head.
A chase then ensued between the police and men to the outside of the Arena where two others were shot.
They were taken to hospital for treatment.
Supporters who claim they witnessed the incident said the men were unarmed.
However, police at the scene disputed those claims saying a gun was seized from one of men.
They added that a gunman, believed to be from Mountain View, was responsible for the killing inside the Arena.
He was taken into custody.
