Opposition Leader Portia Simpson-Miller yesterday chided the Government for not heeding warnings by the People\'s National Party (PNP) that there was potential danger to the economy from the growing turmoil in the US economy.

Mrs. Simpson Miller said that for months, Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Audley Shaw did not acknowledge the impact the crisis abroad would have on the nation.

Mrs. Simpson Miller was addressing a meeting of the National Executive Council at the Vere Technical High School in Clarendon yesterday.

She added that it was time for the government to recognise the difference between a popularity contest and mature leadership. While the PNP is willing to give support to Government to develop policy on matters of national importance, the party would continue to scrutinise the actions of the Government.
