The Labour Minister Pearnel Charles is to meet with the leaders of the various trade unions and some employers today.

The parties will be meeting in an effort to come up with a plan to lessen any possible impact the global financial crisis might have on the workforce.

The trade union leaders have expressed concerns that the workforce will be seriously affected if government does not move to address the problem.

President of the University and Allied Workers Union, Lambert Brown says he is hoping the labour minister will have concrete plans to deal with the situation.

Meanwhile, President of the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union Kavan Gayle says whatever measures are implemented by government should be of benefit to the workers.

Last week the labour minister established a tri-partite committee to devise ways to lessen the impact of the global financial meltdown on Jamaican workers.
