Jamaica sees increase in all crimes
The police high command is reporting that there was an increase in all-major crimes committed in October compared with September.
Statistics released by the Constabulary Communication Network today revealed that 146 people were murdered last month, ten more than the figure for September.
St. James recorded the highest number of murders with 26 homicides.
Kingston, St. Andrew and St. Catherine accounted for total of 73 of the killings.
Clarendon recorded 15 murders and 11 people were killed in Westmoreland.
St. Ann was the only parish, which did not record a killing.
Although the police had earlier denied that there was an increase in rapes, two more cases were recorded last month when compared with the previous month.
The statistics revealed that 66 people were raped.
43 cases were recorded in rural Jamaica and 23 in St. Catherine, Kingston and St. Andrew.
There was also an increase in the number of reported cases of carnal abuse.
27 cases were recorded last month compared with the 21 reported in September.
Shootings jumped from 124 in September to 163 last month.
Robberies went up from 237 to 260 and break –ins from 207 to 251.
