Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) said the move by government to provide the farming sector and live stock farmers with assistance is a positive one.
Yesterday, Minister of Agriculture Dr. Christopher Tufton announced that $30 million would be provided to assist livestock farmers.
Rural Agricultural Development Agency (RADA) will be responsible for distributing the grants on a constituency basis.
Dr. Tufton said there would also be a 10 percent subsidy on the price of fertilizers within the next three months.
President of JAS, Senator Norman Grant, said he is hoping the assistance will lead to the recovery of the sector following damage caused by Hurricane Dean last year.
