Henry responds to CG’s JUTC report
Transport minister, Mike Henry is questioning whether contractor general Greg Christie acted properly when he recommended that criminal charges be laid against the managing director of the JUTC, Bindley Sangster.
Mr Henry raised the concern in a release to the media.
The statement is the first response from the minister since the report was tabled in parliament on Friday.
In his report, Contractor General Greg Christie recommended that Mr Sangster be charged for wilfully making a false statement to his office.
He says the statement was given in regard to the approval by the JUTC’s Finance Committee of a $1.6 million contract with Simber Productions.
Mr. Sangster was the chairman of the JUTC’s Finance Committee at the time the contract was awarded while Douglas Chambers was the chairman of the board.
Mr. Chambers was killed months later.
According to Mr Henry, the issue of whether Mr Sangster is to be charged is a determination best left up to a member of the judiciary and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
