PM orders JUTC report

Prime Minister Bruce Golding has called for a full report from the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) on contracts about which the contractor general has raised questions.

He has instructed that the report is to be ready and submitted by tomorrow afternoon.

The board of the JUTC is to meet at 4:00 p.m. today to discuss the damning report by the contractor general.

Chairman of the JUTC board, Robin Levy, scheduled the meeting after the Prime minister requested that the board meet to compile a report on the matter.

Transport Minister Mike Henry has advised the JUTC board chairman to ensure that all the necessary arrangements are put in place to facilitate a transparent examination of the allegations.

Supporting documents intended to verify claims that JUTC managing director Bindley Sangster deliberately misled the Contractor General, were yesterday afternoon delivered to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Contractor General Greg Christie, in a 104-page report on investigations into the award of contracts at the state-owned bus company, said Sangster committed a criminal offence by making a false statement to his office.

Christie said in his report that the statement was intended to mislead a contractor general.

Sangster, who had been overseas since the report was tabled in the Senate last Friday, says he would determine whether to respond to the findings of the damning report when he returns to the island today.
