The Police Traffic Department said it would be intensifying its efforts to get rid of illegal taxi and bus operations during the Christmas season.

Superintendent in charge of the department, Fred Hibbert, said the illegal operators account for most of the challenges faced by the traffic division.

Superintendent Hibbert said in addition to an increased police presence on the roads, the department would also be conducting more random breathalyzer tests.

Superintendent Hibbert is advising male drivers between the ages of 20 and 38 to be especially careful when driving.

He said this age group accounts for most of the road fatalities.

Superintendent Hibbert said the Traffic Department is hoping the road fatality figure will remain below 300 for this year.
