Fire destroys 38 houses
Fire officials are still to determine the cause of a massive blaze that destroyed almost 30 wooden houses at 36 to 38 Alexander Road off Waltham Park in Kingston 13 this morning.
More than 60 persons, including children are now homeless as a result of the fire.
However, no one was injured in the blaze.
Assistant Superintendent John Morais, of the York Park Fire Station, said the fire started sometime after 2 a.m.
He said units from the York Park, Half Way Tree, Rolling Town and the Trench Town Fire Stations put out the blaze.
According to him, about 17 structures were destroyed at 36 Alexander Road, while 10 were razed at the neighhbouring premises.
Total loss is estimated at $14 million.
Jason McIntyre, a social worker who works in the community, is appealing to individuals and companies to help the affected families.
He is asking persons who want to help, to call the House of God Church on Alexander Road at 923-6792.
