Suriname gets stable rating

International credit rating agency, Standard & Poor has maintained Suriname\'s stable B plus rating.

Credit analyst Richard Francis says the ratings reflect the country\'s robust medium term growth prospects and strengthened debt position.

However the agency is predicting that the current account balance will fall into a deficit of 2.3 percent of GDP in 2009, from a surplus of nearly five percent in 2008, because of a sharp fall in commodity prices.

The agency also said lower commodity prices will lead to slower economic growth through 2010.
