Barbados PM rejects spending measures

Prime Minister of Barbados David Thompson has rejected several spending measures aimed at tackling the current global financial crisis.



Prime Minister Thompson said while some commentators are calling for what he describes as belt tightening measures, his Democratic Labour Party administration is taking a different approach.



According to Mr. Thompson more spending and investment at home is needed to keep the economy going.



He said his government would be facilitating the circulation of more money in Barbados in time for Christmas.



Mr. Thompson said one of the measures to achieve that objective, includes accelerating the increase in tax credit and increasing pensions.
