The unions representing workers at the National Water Commission (NWC) have signed off on the new wage agreement for the contract period 2008 to 2010.

The new agreement was signed last night following several meetings with the company’s management.

As part of the new agreement the company is to immediately begin a job evaluation exercise for employees.

The company has also agreed to pay the workers an almost 200 per cent increase on lunch subsidies, which all unionised workers will be entitled to.

Vice president at the National Workers’ Union, Granville Valentine, says the new rates are to be implemented in this month.

Mr. Valentine says although the negotiations were protracted the unions are pleased with the outcome of the agreement.

He says there are also other financial benefits for the employees under the Memorandum Of Understanding for public sector workers.
