Junior Transport and Works minister, Joseph Hibbert, is expected to meet with police today to discuss the circumstances under which a raid was carried out at his house yesterday.

Mr Hibbert is expected to be accompanied by his lawyer, fellow member of parliament, Ernest Smith.

It has been confirmed that the search is part of a UK Serious Fraud Office probe.

The police entered the upscale St. Andrew neighbourhood about 10:00 a.m. yesterday with warrants to search the house of the Jamaica Labour Party Parliamentarian.

Mr. Hibbert, who is also the Member of Parliament for East Rural St. Andrew was not at home and the police would not say if they seized anything.

The police were also reported to have searched the house of a prominent corporate area businessman.

However, they refused to confirm the reports nor would they provide more details regarding the search of the MP’s house.

Yesterday, Mr Smith said he would be able to provide more information to the media after his client meets with the police.

In a statement yesterday the Jamaica Labour Party said the raid is related to allegations of unprofessional conduct in transactions, which took place some fifteen years ago.

The JLP also said discussions have been held with Mr. Hibbert and the party is satisfied with his explanations.
