Three month amnesty for illegal immigrants

St Lucia has announced a three-month amnesty for illegal immigrants currently living on the island.
The amnesty period starts in January 2009.
National Security Minister Guy Mayers said illegal aliens would be expected to sort out their status during this period.
He said the amnesty would apply to CARICOM nationals living in St Lucia without the proper paperwork.
Mr. Mayers said at the end of the anmesty serious measures will be put in place to deal with persons, who remain in St. Lucia illegally or those who try to obtain travel documents in a fraudulent way.
