Guyana flood woes

Guyana\'s Health Ministry said it has dispatched several teams of health care workers to provide medical attention to a number of villages seriously affected by flooding caused by recent heavy rains.



Ministry officials also say all Health Centres in areas affected by the recent heavy rainfall will be opened for extended periods.



The Health Ministry has also activated its disaster management coordinating team.



The floodwater, which is reportedly waist-high in some villages, has covered a number of rice fields and other areas where food crops and livestock are maintained.



So far this month, Guyana has had twice the amount of rainfall normally experienced in the entire month of December.
