IDB to double aid to Haiti

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) plans to double the amount of aid to Haiti next year.
The IDB said the aim is to help Haiti to upgrade its crumbling infrastructure and broaden social programmes.
The bank said it also intends to double its grants to Port au Prince to US$100 million for 2009.
The IDB’s announcement comes a few months after some 800 people were confirmed dead after four devastating storms flooded parts of Haiti.
