Prime Minister attends Caribbean Summit

Prime Minister Bruce Golding is in Salvador, Brazil for the heads of state and Government of Latin America and the Caribbean summit.



The leaders will be meeting in a new attempt to further regional integration.



The central themes for the two-day summit, which begins today, will be on integration and development from a regional perspective.



It will also consider the challenges posed by the financial, energy and food crisis as well as climate changes.



The leaders will also look at other pressing issues such as agricultural cooperation, racism against migrants and natural disasters.



Jamaica’s delegation will include Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Dr. Kenneth Baugh and Ambassador Paul Robotham.



During Mr. Golding’s absence, Minister of Finance, Audley Shaw will be in charge of the Government.



The Prime Minister and his party will return to the island on Friday following a brief stop-over in Miami with the Consul General there.
