Sangster still at JUTC

The Opposition is raising concerns that the acting managing director of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) Bindley Sangster is still at the company despite an announcement that he would be sent on leave.

The Contractor General had cited Mr. Sangster for deliberately misleading his office in a probe into the awarding of contracts at the JUTC.

He has recommended that criminal prosecution be initiated against Mr. Sangster.

Mr. Sangster who was the chairman of the JUTC finance and procurement committee later resigned as a boards member of the JUTC and asked to go on leave in his capacity and acting managing director.

The Transport Minister had said he approved Mr. Sangster’s request to go on leave while a further investigation is conducted into the JUTC contacts issue.

The ministry has reported that Mr. Sangster is still in the position until a replacement can be found.

The Opposition spokesman on Transport, Bobby Pickersgill said this is not acceptable.
