A dispute is developing between the Nurses Association of Jamaica, NAJ and the government over outstanding allowances owed to registered nurses.

The government is claiming that nurses in all four regions have been paid all outstanding allowances in full.

But the head of the NAJ Edith Allwood Anderson has rejected the health ministry’s claim.

Mrs. Allwood Anderson says registered nurses are still owed several claims, which were submitted in accordance to the ministry’s payment policy.

The NAJ president says although the health ministry had received the money the nurses were not receiving the payments.

Mrs. Allwood Anderson says the NAJ is giving the government until next week Wednesday to settle all outstanding payments.

However, the Health Ministry is insisting that nurses who submitted claims in keeping with the payment policy have been paid in full.

Mrs. Allwood Anderson says a meeting is scheduled for December 29 when nurses are expected to make a decision on the way forward.
