Air traffic controllers talks continue

Members of the Jamaica Air Traffic Controllers Association will be seeking to reach an agreement today during a meeting set for 10.00 a.m. at the finance ministry.

Minister without portfolio in the finance ministry Senator Dwight Nelson is expected to meet with representatives of the association and the management of the Civil Aviation Authority.

Yesterday, a meeting scheduled with the labour ministry had to be postponed to facilitate a meeting with the prime minister as the government made attempts to resolve the impasse, which threatened activities at the airports.

General Secretary of the association, Deano Ledford says the air traffic controllers are hoping that more details regarding their salary package for the contract period 2008 to 2010 will be outlined at today’s meeting.

The air traffic controllers have been restive since last Thursday after talks aimed at settling wage negotiations stalled.

The workers have warned that normality cannot be guaranteed at the island’s airports if the issue is not resolved.
