OCA on child safety
The Office of the Children’s Advocate is appealing to parents and guardians to do all that is necessary to keep children safe during this yuletide season.
Children’s Advocate Mary Clarke says parents and guardians should take extra care to ensure that children are kept safe especially while they are at home. As children are taken out to shop during grand market today, parents should ensure that they are kept close to them.
Mrs. Clarke says parents should ensure that children are kept away from the kitchen and flammable material.
She’s also urging parents to be careful of the types of toys given to children as gifts this Christmas.
Head of operations at the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Owen Ellington says the police will be making every effort to ensure the safety of children on the streets today.
He says children are particularly susceptible to becoming victims of crime during the increased activity associated with the festive season.
