Clarendon cameras go live
The closed circuit cameras placed on some streets in May Pen, Clarendon, are to be commissioned into service today.
Transport minister Mike Henry, national security minister Colonel Trevor Macmillan, the police and members of the business community are expected to participate in today’s commissioning service.
The closed circuit camera system is a joint venture between the business community and the government.
President of the Clarendon Chamber of Commerce, Aldo Brown said the business community is hoping that the cameras will be a deterrent for criminal activities in the town.
The system is the first such network to be established outside of the corporate area.
Similar facilities are currently being contemplated for Mandeville and Montego Bay.
The May Pen network, established by the National Works Agency, is being viewed as a critical crime-fighting tool in the town, which has seen an increase in serious crimes including murders.
