A Jamaican man has been convicted and fined $300,000 Antiguan dollars for attempting to import a large quantity of ganja into Antigua.

Kevon Anthony Campbell pleaded guilty to possession of ganja, and importation and possession with intent to transfer when he appeared in court.

Campbell arrived in Antigua from Jamaica on Christmas Day aboard a Caribbean Airlines flight.

It’s reported that after he got off the plane, he entered the terminal building and went to the bathroom.

Further reports say officers from the Narcotics Department became suspicious and kept Campbell under surveillance.

The police personnel followed him to the bathroom and found him putting the drugs into a garbage bin.

Campbell was reportedly caught with seven and three-quarter pounds of ganja.

He was convicted and fined $150,000 on the charges of importation and possession with intent to transfer and reprimanded and discharged on the possession charge.

Campbell will serve three years in prison if he fails to pay the fine and will be deported on completion of the sentence.
