JA to experience \'massive\' job cuts
Labour Minister, Pearnel Charles is warning that there will be massive job cuts in the New Year.
He says already the ministry has been receiving information from several companies about possible redundancies.
Mr. Charles says the conditions will only get worse for Jamaica as the global financial crisis worsens.
The bauxite alumina industry has already sent home 150 employees and the Jamaica Public Service Company says it’s not ruling out job cuts.
Mr. Charles says the government will be revisiting several aspects of the Programme of Advancement through Health and Education.
He says Prime Minister, Bruce Golding has advised the Labour Ministry to examine the programme given the economic challenges affecting Jamaica.
Mr Charles is also urging unemployed persons to apply for the ministry’s \'Step to Work\' programme, which is aimed at training young people for various categories of jobs.
It also gives them a chance to go back to school.
