Jobs in Jamaica - 2009 challenging

President of the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions (JCTU), Wayne Jones is predicting a very challenging year for the country’s labour market.
He says the global financial crisis will make it hard for international investors to come to Jamaica.
As a result he says many people will not be able to find short-term or even permanent jobs.
Mr. Jones says the JCTU has been making plans to deal with the expected adverse effects of the financial crisis on the labour force.
Earlier this week Labour Minister Pearnel Charles forecast major job cuts for this year.
Mr. Jones is urging Jamaicans not to be alarmed by the predictions but to ensure that they are prepared for the challenges ahead.
