There’s to be a briefing at the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) today on yesterday’s fire at the Jubilee Market in downtown Kingston.

Kingston’s Town Clerk, Errol Green, says an assessment of the damage will take place after the KSAC is briefed.

He notes that this is not the first time that fire has damaged the facility, which is currently being used by about 130 vendors at West Queen Street and West Parade.

Mr. Green says about 35 vendors suffered losses during yesterday’s fire.

The fire was discovered at about 12:15 p.m. in a section of the market.

The police and fire brigade were summoned and four fire units, two from Trench Town and two from York Park extinguished the blaze, but not before several stalls owned by vendors were destroyed.

Police investigators are yet to ascertain the cause of the fire.
