Jamaican Minister refutes claims
Government Minister, James Robertson is refuting reports that he could be arrested for verbally abusing a police team following an alleged gunfight in St Thomas over the weekend.
The incident stemmed from a police shooting on Saturday during which Rameish Simpson, a man who was wanted by the police, was shot and injured.
Robertson is said to have assisted Simpson out of the parish.
The Yallahs police had earlier reported that a summons was prepared for the arrest of the West St. Thomas member of parliament.
However Mr. Robertson has denied any wrongdoing.
He is insisting that he was protecting Simpson who was being targeted because he had information regarding police misconduct.
According to Mr. Roberterson he had sought help from the Police High Command in getting the man to Kingston.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Les Green has confirmed that Robertson had approached the police in relation to the investigation of professional misconduct on the part of police in the parish.
Green, who heads the Major Investigation Task Force, also says the police were aware that Robertson was leaving Kingston to retrieve a wounded man.
Simpson was hit in the leg during the alleged shoot-out with the police but managed to elude the lawmen until Robertson arrived and assisted him to the Kingston Public Hospital.
He was treated and released into the custody of a senior Corporate Area police officer.
