JA police release 2008 murder stats
The Police High Command is reporting that close to one hundred children were murdered by criminals last year.
In the crime data for 2008 released by the police, 94 children were killed during the year, twenty more than the 70 murdered in 2007.
The data also revealed that 160 women were among the 1,611 persons murdered last year.
According to the data December was the only month when less than 100 people were murdered.

The data also revealed that 224 persons were killed by the police, six by security guards and three by members of the defence force.
The gun was the most common weapon used in the murders, as 1,249 of the killings were a result of the gun.
Gang related violence accounted for 718 of the killings while 672 were through other criminal acts.
The St. Andrew South police division recorded the highest number of murders with 223 persons killed.
936 people were murdered in Kingston, St. Andrew and St. Catherine, while rural parishes accounted for 675 of the killings.
